We invest in world-class events right here in Hawaii so that local surfers gain experience, showcase their skills, and advance their careers.

Local competitive events are essential for Hawaii athletes looking to surfing as a viable career. Competing at home allows athletes to gain experience, earn valuable ratings points, and minimize the high costs of traveling abroad to compete.

HYSDO works closely with the regional World Surf League (WSL) Hawaii/Tahiti Nui office to provide opportunities for young Hawaii surfers. These WSL-sanctioned events are the highest-quality, most professional junior (under 18) competitions in the islands. Designed to feed into the WSL Qualifying Series and Championship Tour, athletes in these competitions gain experience with the highest-caliber levels of event production, judging criteria, and safety.

In 2017, HYSDO will underwrite the Women’s Qualifying Series, Men’s/Women’s Junior, and Men’s/Women’s Longboard divisions at the Turtle Bay Resort Pro.
