HYSDO is a 501c3 nonprofit working to deliver greater opportunities for Hawaii youth, in and out of the water. We strive to harness the power of surfing to build careers, strengthen communities, and develop the athletes of tomorrow.
As Hawaii’s gift to the world, surfing is the ideal pathway to lead our youth toward personal and professional growth. Surfing promotes a deeper appreciation for the environment and encourages a healthy, positive lifestyle.
For every competitive surfer in Hawaii, there are more than a dozen related industry jobs right here at home. The global surf industry offers an incredible range of career choices, from product development, marketing, and creative to event production, broadcast, and administration.
HYSDO works year-round in partnership with local schools, businesses, and World Surf League Hawaii/Tahiti Nui to position Hawaii’s next generation for success through surfing. We’ve raised $40,000 since our inception in September 2016. 100% of these funds have been spent on our mission, with $0 toward administrative costs.
Our focus areas include:
Junior Development
Creating well-rounded athletes by developing skills that complement technical surf training. Past workshop topics have included tour planning, injury prevention, and sports psychology.
Careers
Mentorship programs for students and youth looking to gain meaningful, real-world experiences through hands-on education and applied learning.
Community
Activations that support local businesses, give back to the community, and help us fundraise toward our ongoing mission.
Competition
Investing in world-class Hawaii events for local surfers to gain experience, showcase their skills, and advance their careers.
